Complexe Omphalocèle-Exstrophie vésicale-Imperforation anale-Spina bifida: observation clinique
Omphalocoele, Exstrophy of cloaca, Imperforate anus and Spinal defects (OEIS complex): a case report

SummaryRésumé

Omphalocele-Exstrophy of the Bladder-Imperforate anus-Spina bifida (OEIS) complex is a rare congenital malformation complex. The term OEIS was first used by Carey et al. in 1978.

A specific aetiology of this complex has not been identified. It results from defect of mesoderm in ventral abdominal wall, with persistence of cloacal membrane. The diagnosis of this disease is established after birth, but imaging investigation can be made to define the complexity of malformations. Patients with OEIS complex require the surgery performed by a multidisciplinary team in many steps.Compatibility of life with OEIS complex is nil or very low. The authors report two cases of this condition at the Kinshasa University Hospital. They discuss the variability of clinical expression and the difficulties of treatment of patients in underequipped environment.

Keywords: Omphalocele, exstrophy of the bladder, imperforate anus.
